House Painting Update
This week we started painting our house - it has been the same blue/grey color since we bought it 6 years ago. We're happy with the progress so far with lots more to do. We plan on adding some black shutters to the windows in the front and we are having new gutters added in a couple of weeks. Here are some photos as we finished up today.
(The picture with the tulips in the front is from this April and is what the house looked like prior to painting)

Sunday Spray Park
It was a hot Sunday afternoon so we thought we would drop on by the Liberty spray park. It's close by and both girls had a great time.

Kansas City Chalk Walk 2009 at Crown Center
Today we went down to Crown Center to see the Kansas City Chalk Walk 2009. Lots of great artwork on the sidewalk, a place where kids could create their own sidewalk masterpieces and lots of free stuff. We had a great time and left right before it started to rain a little. Great day.

Frontiers of Flight Museum Visit
While visiting Grandma and Grandpa Faber in Allen, Texas we visited the Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas near Love Field. Tons of exhibits and great interactive displays. Here are some pictures.
Burgers by Train at Fritz's
After the Lego exhibit we ate lunch at Fritz's - a burger place in Crown Center. This place is extra special though since the theme is trains and your food is delivered to you from the kitchen on a train. I took a little video to demonstrate how this works. Fun place to eat and of course Addi and Scarlet thought it was awesome.
Lego Exhibit at Crown Center in Kansas City
Today we went down to Crown Center after church at visited the Lego exhibit - more info here, on display until Sept 2009 and it's free. They had some incredible pieces of artwork made with Legos and an area where kids - of all ages - could make their own creations. We all had a great time.

A River Runs Though It
Here are some pictures of our front yard on the afternoon of May 15, 2009. Between 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM we got over 5 inches of rain. These pictures are at about 4:30 during the second downpour. We didn't get pictures of the first flood but you can see the debris field that it left in the middle of our front yard - half way between the street and our house. The water came up to our basement window wells on the side of our house and it managed to flood into our shed out back a little. Our pump worked and we had no water in our basement. A crazy afternoon to say the least.

Praying Mantis Eggs
We had several praying mantis in our flower bed in front of the house last year and we loved watching them - when we could find them. This spring as we were doing some clean up in the flower beds we found two batches of praying mantis eggs. We hope they hatch later this spring and we'll have lots of little friends in our garden and flower beds.

Addison and SmartBoard - 2/2009
Addison had a great time this afternoon playing on the SmartBoard in my classroom. She drew several pictures and made one of herself and Scarlet - Scarlet she told me was the one with the "slightly smaller head".

Monkey Bread
Today Jayme made "Monkey Bread" - one of Eric's favorites - for breakfast. We took a couple of pictures as we gathered at the table. Jayme is also enjoying her new French press coffee maker. She even knitted a sweater for it!

Scarlet's Trip to the ER

Last week Scarlet made her first trip to the emergency room. She was playing hide and go seek with mom in her room on December 30th, slipped and hit her head on the dresser. We thought everything was OK until we saw that she was bleeding from a small gash in her forehead. It looked a little deep so we decided to forgo the planned dinner with family and take her to the Liberty Hospital ER. Scarlet was in a great mood and played for 4 hours before we were finally seen by a doctor. The cut took 7 stitches - which she was not a big fan of as they stitched her up - and after 5 1/2 hours in the ER we went home. Sunday, January 4th, she had the stitches taken out and all looks good now. I took some pictures with my phone only because she was in a great mood and I thought she might like to see then when she is older. Jayme thought it was crazy of me to take the pictures in the first place but she has asked me several times if I had posted them to the web!

2008 Thanksgiving Prayer
We celebrated Thanksgiving in Howells at Grandma and Grandpa Langhorst's house. Before our dinner on Thanksgiving we had a special prayer from Grandpa Langhorst and Addison. Check out the video from the Flip camera. Scarlet decided she couldn't wait till the end of the prayer to eat. I have also added a picture of my (Eric's) plate - a piece of artwork.

Husker - Colorado Game - HUSKERS WIN

Jayme and Eric attended the Husker - Colorado game in Lincoln on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The Buffs and Huskers traded the lead throughout the game but a 57 yard field goal and interception returned for a touchdown won the game for the Huskers. A great time was had by all - except for the Buff fans.

Eric Throwing Out The First Pitch at the Royals - Cardinals Game in St. Louis
This past week I was able to fulfill a lifetime dream - throwing out the first pitch at a major league game. As the 2007/2008 Missouri Teacher of the Year I was asked to throw out the first pitch at the June 18th Kansas City Royals - St. Louis Cardinals game at Busch Stadium.
Boeing - the primary sponsor for the Missouri Teacher of the Year Program - made the event possible. It was an incredible experience that I was able to share with my dad and my brother. My dad actually caught the first pitch with the Bob Feller glove he had as a child in the late 1940's.
In the podcast I describe the event - which also included a TV interview on the pre-game show, a radio interview in the 4th inning on the Cardinals radio network, a tour of the video control center for Busch Stadium and watching the game from the Best Buy suite. I have included video of the first pitch - which has been posted on You Tube and a goofy pregame interview my brother did with my dad and I.
